Antique Book Replica by MilleCuirs Antique Book Replica by MilleCuirs
This is an exemple of what I called "Antique book replicas". Its like those old books you find lost in old dusty ruins of libraries. All the interior pages are aged to give them that antique look. The lambskin is chosen for its grain. Central motif is a celtic Triskele. All those books are handmade and one of a kind!

Your work is lovely! Were do you get the clasps you use such as the one in this book?

Thank you! Book clasps are so difficult to find nowadays. You have to handcraft them, or buy something that is not design for books. Those are "pin hooks" found at a local hardware store. Small enough, looking antique enough, they are doing a great job and do not cost too much!

Its very beautiful! It definitely captures the Celtic feeling associated with its emblem. What's the price of such a fantastic book?

This is a wonderful bookdesign.
The surface looks nicely smooth and the colour really fits nice to the antique flair.

Is the leatherstrap sturdy enough to last without a little framing of metal round the hole?
Oh, and are those rivets of some sort in the edges?

Thank you!! The leather strap is sturdy enough, but it could be something to look for in the future, somekind of metal insert or ring. And yes rivets in the corners, purely decorative at this point!

I'm looking for something much thinner, but I also plan to use it. See, I write music and occasionally poetry, and I'd like to have a small book in this style to keep it all in.

Sounds great! I was looking to create a new design for compositions books! With antique bronze lyre on front cover! Just send me a note when you are ready, so we can discuss the details! Thank you!

I don't really have any ideas. I'd really have to brainstorm to conceive a design. I'm sure we can work something out. :)

Starts with the color, the general feeling you want to give to the book! Could be a lot simpler design too!

Well, a black leather (pleather?) would probably suit, unless you have an alternative material that might work better.

Did you see my "12th century" book? Small pocket book with a thin leather straps wrapped around to keep it closed.

I tried using "pleather" synthetic leather, but it won't keep the design, I can't use my regular technique. But I can do this very simple 12th century model using black pleather and a cord to wrap around.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I've NEVER seen books like this at libraries, not even when I've asked specifically for fancy old books. It's more accurate to say this is what people think old books should look like lol.

You are absolutely right about that! Its like the Middle Ages, there is this vision of the Middle Ages that exist in our mind, mainly because of movies and tales, but it is far from the reality of that time. When I look around for 12th- 13th century books for historical accuracy, I realised that back then, books were only a strip of leather wrapped around a bundle of page. End of story. No fancy jewelry and ornament!

Oh....I don't know whether or not I could afford to commission you.  I didn't know you did commissions on these!  I was kind of just speaking of the antique looking books...but I'll look at your prices and see.
